HISTORY

Rise Uptown Hotel combines the best of historic architecture and modern sensibilities. What was once two separate mid-century modern office towers has been completely re-envisioned into a contemporary boutique hotel with a distinctly delightful sense of style.

Our original towers were constructed during the Valley’s post-war boom, a time in which modernist architects left their mark. The Googie-style 444 building at the west of the hotel was completed in 1958, designed by Maddock & Associates. When it opened, it featured 30 offices including the penthouse space rented by prolific developer Don Woods. Due to high demand, the 400 building was added to the east in 1960, offering space for 40 more offices. Its contemporary style was the work of prolific architect Fred Melville Guirey.

In 2018, work was undertaken to carefully restore the existing buildings while adding some contemporary style. New buildings included the pool area and a welcome building featuring our front desk and popsicle stand. The brand-new Rise Uptown Hotel opened in 2020, carrying on an important legacy of mid-century modern architecture in the Valley. Come stay with us; you’ll dig it.
